Excellent genuine cuisine

Elche has excellent genuine cuisine, which is based on the wide variety of produce from the countryside and the coast, and the amount of restaurants in the city, the Countryside of Elche and the Beaches of Elche where it can be enjoyed.

They say that the speciality dish of Elche is the arroz con costra (rice topped with an egg crust). But how about the rice with rabbit and snails or the arròs i seba (rice with onion) or les teronchetes (orange sized meat balls) from Camp d’Elx? Or the mújol del Hondo con all i oli (grey mullet with ali oli sauce)? Or the fish or shellfish from the coast…? And for dessert, the local fruit and the sweet dishes: dates, figs, pomegranates, carrizales melon, tortada de Elche (almond and lemon cake), fig bread… accompanied with traditional drinks, such as the cantueso liquor obtained by distilling the flower and the stalks of the Cantueso plant, the anís paloma or the Date liquor.
